Zambia’s Democratic Party has officially thrown its weight behind President Hakainde Hichilema as the country gears up for the 2026 general election.

The party’s President, Judith Kabemba, made the announcement during a media briefing in Lusaka on Tuesday, praising Hichilema’s leadership and his government’s economic policies. She said the endorsement reflects a shared commitment to economic growth, job creation, and political stability.

Kabemba added that the Democratic Party aims to work closely with Hichilema’s United Party for National Development (UPND) to ensure continuity of governance and to build a stronger coalition that can tackle Zambia’s pressing challenges, including youth unemployment and infrastructure development.
