Communities in the South African city of eThekwini have expressed concern over the growing number of school girls being used as drug peddlers in the classroom

A private security company claims they have been receiving several calls from parents saying their daughters are getting roped into the local illegal drug trade. Director, Prem Balram says he has dealt with at least five cases this month of schoolgirls peddling drugs.

“In recent weeks, I attended to several calls from parents, living in the area where they informed me that their daughters were truanting school, found in the company of drug dealers, found in possession of drugs. So, when I interviewed these parents,  they were concerned that their children were trafficking drugs, and when I did some kind of investigation, I found several of these girls were now being used by drug traffickers to sell drugs  on school premises,” he said.
