After months away from the public eye, former Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Joseph Kabila has returned to the political spotlight through an interview with La Libre Belgique published on Monday. In the discussion, Kabila stressed that only dialogue can address the country’s ongoing crisis.
However, he criticised current peace processes, including negotiations in Doha and Washington, describing them as poorly directed. Kabila also condemned what he called inefficient governance under the current administration, accusing it of violating the Constitution and calling for a sweeping reform of the political system.
Speaking on the matter, political analyst Teddy Mfitu said, “Kabila’s return signals a renewed attempt to influence the political landscape. His emphasis on dialogue suggests he is positioning himself as a mediator, but his criticism of current peace talks could complicate ongoing negotiations.”
The interview marks a significant re-entry for Kabila into public debate, highlighting growing tensions and the urgent need for solutions to the DRC’s political challenges.
