Angola is set to put two Russian nationals on trial accused of fomenting anti-government protests
Angola is set to put two Russian nationals on trial accused of fomenting anti-government protests, spreading disinformation, and attempting to meddle in next year’s presidential election.
Political consultant Igor Ratchin and translator Lev Lakshtanov, arrested last year, face 11 charges, including terrorism, espionage, and influence peddling. The indictment alleges they were involved in an operation aimed at altering Angola’s political trajectory.
The defendants’ lawyers are contesting the charges, arguing the indictment “lacks concrete and objective facts” to substantiate the allegations.
