The floods have claimed 73 lives and displaced nearly 70 000 residents, particularly in informal settlements in Nairobi and across 21 counties, where rivers like the Sondu-Miriu and Nyando burst their banks.
Speaking to Channel Africa’s Tsepiso Makwetla, Kenyan Government Spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura said Nairobi is doing is doing its level best to deal with the aftermath of the deadly floods, which has been compounded by a drought crisis.
“Remember we have been dealing with the issue of drought and now we are having to deal with the issue of drought and floods at the same time. You have eleven counties that have dealt with issues of shortage of food, four of which are on high alarm and others are on alert,” he said.
