Malawi is facing rising economic losses from climate change

Malawi is facing rising economic losses from climate change, currently costing the country around 1.7% of its Gross Domestic Product each year.

Experts warn that losses could reach between 3% and 9% by 2030, and up to sixteen percent by 2050 if trends continue.

These figures were highlighted at the 5th African Regional Conference on Loss and Damage in Lilongwe, which concludes today.

The summit brought together policymakers, researchers, and climate specialists to discuss the impact on growth, infrastructure, and public finances.
