Burundi strengthened their claim for the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers with a commanding 4-0 victory over Chad in N’Djamena.
Goals from Jordi Liongola, Bienvenue Kanakimana, Abdoul Karim and Mossi Nduwumwe secured a dominant away win, giving the Burundian side a healthy advantage ahead of the return leg in Bujumbura.
Ethiopia also impressed on the road, defeating São Tomé & Príncipe 3-0 in Morocco, with Abel Yalew scoring twice and Kenean Markneh adding another. Meanwhile, Somalia and Mauritius played out a goalless draw, leaving their tie delicately poised.
The preliminary round features 12 of Africa’s lowest-ranked teams competing for six spots in the group stage qualifiers.
