Authorities in Nigeria city of Jos have imposed a 48-hour curfew

Authorities in Nigeria city of Jos have imposed a 48-hour curfew following a series of deadly attacks at an open-air bar, where gunmen opened fire, sparking revenge killings.

Police have confirmed that at least 26 people were killed, though it remains unclear how many died in the initial assault and how many in the subsequent retaliation.

Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau State, announced the curfew and said an investigation has been launched to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

The state has a long history of violence and is considered one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions. Paul Mancha, Chairperson of the Plateau State Youth Council, warned that the actual death toll could be higher than official figures suggest.
