South African (SA) top-ranked artistic swimming athlete Xera Vegter Maharajh says her recent shoulder injury has fuelled her determination to return stronger at the Bombela Concession Artistic Swimming National Championships in Cape Town.
The 22-year-old is aiming to reclaim her title after missing last year’s event due to a concussion, followed by shoulder surgery in September.
Maharajh says the setback ultimately gave her time to reset and rebuild, describing the break as a turning point in her recovery. After six months out, she returned to training with renewed intensity, adding that rehabilitation has left her feeling stronger as she prepares for competition.
