South Africa’s (SA) power utility Eskom has urged communities near Cape Town International Airport to ensure children are supervised and kept away from power lines following a power outage in the area.
The outage, which affected the airport and nearby industrial zones, was caused by kites that became entangled in Eskom’s high-voltage lines.
Eskom says technicians were dispatched immediately, with electricity supply restored shortly after midday.
The utility has warned that any interference with critical infrastructure is a serious offence, adding that those responsible for damage to the power network could face legal consequences.
