SA relies on Lesotho for approximately 60% of water

The country’s industrial and economic hub depends on Lesotho.

The water is supplied through the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

However, now Lesotho seeks to open talks with SA over the compensation for this water-sharing deal.

This is viewed as the largest water transfer scheme in Africa.

The mountainous Kingdom says the deal that was formulated in 1986, no longer reflects modern economic conditions. The accord is set to expire in 2044.
