Ghana Energy Chamber has withdrawn from the upcoming Africa Energies Summit in London

The Ghana Energy Chamber has withdrawn from the upcoming Africa Energies Summit in London, citing concerns over discriminatory hiring practices and the exclusion of African professionals from key leadership and decision-making roles.

The Chamber says the move goes beyond boycotting a single event, describing it as a stand for Africa’s right to lead discussions about its own natural resources.

The decision has sparked wider debate about representation and equity in global energy platforms, particularly those focused on the African continent.

Wilberforce Asare, Head of Media Relations at APN and Managing Editor of The Source newspaper in Ghana, says the issue reflects a broader concern about who controls narratives around Africa’s resources.

He says African voices must be central in shaping policies and decisions that directly affect the continent, especially in sectors as critical as energy.
