Dozens of people have died following severe floods caused by heavy rains in Angola, affecting the capital, Luanda, and other parts of the country.

Emergency services have reported at least 29 deaths in Luanda and the central city of Benguela, with more than 34 000 people impacted.

President João Lourenço expressed his sorrow over the loss of life, saying the nation is in a “race against the clock” to rescue those affected and provide urgent medical care.
