Nigeria has launched one of the country’s largest terrorism trials, with more than 500 people accused of links to militant attacks facing prosecution.
The trial opened on Tuesday at a High Court in Abuja, the capital, with 227 suspects arraigned before 10 judges. The defendants are charged with aiding and abetting terrorism, including funding, supplying arms, or providing logistical support to militants.
Many of the alleged attacks took place in north-eastern Nigeria, the region where the Boko Haram insurgency has raged for the past 17 years.
