South Africa’s energy stability

South Africa’s (SA) Electricity and Energy Minister, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, says President Cyril Ramaphosa can rely on his department to ensure energy stability and keep SA’s electricity supply secure.

He says sustained electricity availability is critical to improving capacity utilisation across the economy, supporting households and strengthening food security by enabling more families to access regular meals.

Ramokgopa also emphasised that reliable power is vital for the health sector, stressing that medical professionals should never have to worry about electricity interruptions during critical procedures.

He was speaking while accompanying Ramaphosa during an inspection of the Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga.

“I would like to say this in front of 42 000 plus guidance, that as a result of the efforts that we have made, those companies are going to create jobs. It means that we are reducing the unemployment rate. As a result of keeping the lights on, capacity utilisaation will go up.”
