The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has congratulated Ismail Omar Guelleh on his re-election as President of Djibouti.
Youssouf said the AU takes note of the official results announced by the country’s electoral authority, confirming the outcome of the presidential vote.
He also commended the people of Djibouti for what he described as peaceful participation in the election, highlighting their commitment to democratic governance, national unity and stability.
The AU further recognised Djibouti’s role in promoting peace, security and co-operation in the Horn of Africa, reaffirming its support for the continent’s long-term development goals under Agenda 2063.
Youssouf also praised the AU Election Observation Mission for its work, and acknowledged the leadership of Bernard Makuza, who led the mission.
He extended his best wishes to Guelleh for a successful new term in office.
