BMA Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato said the briefing will focus on traveller volumes, movement patterns and interceptions recorded at the country’s ports of entry, following one of the busiest travel periods on the calendar.
Easter is traditionally a peak period for cross‑border movement as travellers cross into and out of SA for religious observances, family visits, trade and tourism. Border posts linking SA to neighbouring countries, as well as major airports, typically experience sharp increases in passenger volumes during this time.
Masiapato said the authority has closely monitored operations across land ports, airports and harbours, with special attention on managing congestion while maintaining security.
“In recent years, the BMA has intensified its operational posture during peak periods to ensure the efficient movement of legitimate travellers while curbing illegal crossings and criminal activities,” he said.
