South Africa (SA) is set to begin the early rollout of the HIV-prevention injectable Lenacapavir after receiving an initial batch of nearly 38 000 doses.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi described the drug as a “game changer”, noting that it offers up to 100% efficacy with just two injections a year.
He says once the rollout begins, the Department of Health will prioritise adolescent girls and pregnant women, who remain among the most vulnerable to new HIV infections.
