Pope Leo says he has no intention of engaging in a public dispute with United States (US) President Donald Trump, following sharp criticism from the American leader.

Speaking at the start of his trip to Algeria, the Pope told reporters he would not be drawn into a debate but would continue speaking out against the war in Iran.

His remarks come after recent comments in which he condemned war, saying Jesus does not listen to the prayers of those who wage it, widely seen as a veiled criticism of political leaders backing military action.
