Africa is set to make a strong impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, not only through its teams, but also on the officiating side.
The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that 19 match officials from the continent will take part in the global tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The group includes seven referees, ten assistant referees and two video assistant referees, reflecting Africa’s growing presence in top-level football officiating.
Many of the selected officials were also involved in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting the role of continental competitions in preparing referees for the world stage.
