Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) has welcomed the appointment of Roelf Meyer as SA’s Ambassador to the United States (US), saying his experience in dialogue and reconciliation makes him well placed to strengthen relations between the two countries.
BLSA Chief Executive Officer Busisiwe Mavuso said Meyer’s role in SA’s democratic transition demonstrated the political maturity needed to help stabilise ties between SA and the US.
She said his appointment comes at a critical time for the bilateral relationship, which remains economically significant for SA.
The US is a key export market and major source of investment, with around 600 American companies operating in SA and using the country as a regional hub.
Mavuso added that SA’s foreign policy should be guided by long-term economic and development priorities, and said BLSA and its members are ready to support efforts to deepen co-operation and unlock new opportunities.
