Tanzania’s Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, has ordered the cancellation of 40 mineral exploration licences due to failure to comply with operational requirements.
Mavunde says the decision is aimed at enforcing accountability and ensuring that licensed mining activities are actively implemented rather than left dormant.
Speaking in an interview, the Minister said the move follows ongoing efforts to tighten regulation within the mining sector and ensure that mineral resources are developed in line with national priorities.
He added that the government will continue reviewing inactive licences as part of broader reforms to improve efficiency and attract serious investors into the sector.
