Australia have won the inaugural FIFA International Women’s Series in Nairobi, beating hosts Kenya 2-0 in the final.
A goal in each half from Sam Kerr and Clare Wheeler was enough to secure the title for the Matildas, who delivered a composed performance in front of a near full Nyayo National Stadium.
Kenya’s Harambee Starlets, however, showed plenty of promise despite the loss. The hosts created several chances and matched their more experienced opponents for long spells, underlining their progress against one of the world’s top teams.
Head coach Beldine Odemba praised her young side, saying the match provided valuable experience ahead of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Elsewhere, India claimed third place after edging Malawi 3-2 in a lively bronze medal match.
