The African Union (AU) Commission has strongly condemned reports that Israel plans to appoint a diplomatic envoy to the self-declared region of Somaliland.
In a statement, the Commission reaffirmed the AU’s position that it does not recognise Somaliland as an independent state and stressed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
It warned that any unilateral recognition of Somaliland would be considered invalid and could undermine stability in the region.
The Commission also reiterated its commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts towards peace, governance and national unity.
