SA long jumper Luvo Manyonga has marked a powerful comeback

South African (SA) long jumper Luvo Manyonga has marked a powerful comeback, winning his first senior national title in seven years at the Athletics SA championships.

Competing at Coetzenburg Stadium in the Western Cape, Manyonga produced a winning jump of 8.04 metres to take the men’s long jump title, his first since 2019.

The former World Champion had spoken confidently before the event about returning to form in his hometown, and he backed it up with a strong performance that left little doubt about his revival on the track.

After the win, an emotional Manyonga reflected on what the result meant to him, saying it was about more than just sport.

“It means the world. A person’s dream is never over as long as they are alive. I have been looking forward to this since last year. I told myself God gave me this chance and I must use it. Whenever you get that chance, you must take it,” he said.
