AU Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has held talks with Jozef Síkela

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has held talks with Jozef Síkela at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening ties between Africa and Europe.

During the meeting, Youssouf highlighted the long-standing partnership between the AU and the European Union (EU), pointing to co-operation in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, investment, and peace and security.

He called for increased European investment in Africa’s industrialisation, particularly in value addition, while also urging improved access for African processed goods to European markets.

The discussions also touched on the need to implement and monitor commitments made at the 7th AU–EU Summit, with both parties stressing accountability and measurable progress.

Síkela reaffirmed the EU’s intention to align its partnerships with Africa’s development priorities, including those outlined in Agenda 2063. He noted that industrialisation remains key to job creation, economic resilience and long-term stability across the continent.
