France’s Ambassador to South Africa (SA), Lesotho and Malawi, David Martinon, says Paris is rethinking how it works with African countries, with a focus on partnerships that deliver benefits on both sides.
He said trade between France and African economies is growing, but there is still plenty of room to deepen those ties.
Attention is now turning to the Africa Forward Summit, a high-level gathering France will co-host with Kenya in Nairobi next month. The meeting is expected to bring together governments and investors to explore new areas of cooperation and boost economic links across the continent.
Martinon pointed to SA as one of the countries that continues to stand out for investors. He cited the strength of its financial and insurance sectors, along with the country’s legal and institutional stability.
“SA has many assets,” he said, noting that businesses value the predictability of its legal system. “There is confidence that disputes can be handled fairly, even when they involve the state.”
