Zambia Must Prosper party has criticised the government’s handling of the remains of former President Edgar Lungu

The Zambia Must Prosper party has criticised the government’s handling of the remains of former President Edgar Lungu, as a legal dispute with his family continues.

The disagreement centres on whether Lungu should be given a state funeral in Zambia or a private burial in South Africa, where he died in June 2025 at the age of 68 while receiving medical treatment.

Party leader Kelvin Fube Bwalya has questioned the government’s approach, saying the matter should be handled with greater sensitivity and respect for the wishes of the family.
