United States (US) Secretary of State Marco Rubio has extended Freedom Day greetings to South Africans (SA), marking the country’s annual celebration of democracy and liberation from apartheid.

In a statement issued this Monday, Rubio says Freedom Day offers an opportunity to reflect on SA’s journey over the past three decades since its democratic transition, while also looking to the future.

He says the US remains open to constructive engagement with Sa in areas where the interests of both countries align.
