ECOWAS has strongly condemned the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Mali

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has strongly condemned the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Mali, warning that the violence poses a serious threat to peace and stability across the wider West African region.

In a statement issued from its headquarters in Abuja, the regional bloc described the co-ordinated assaults as “heinous acts” that underscore the growing insecurity in the Sahel.

The attacks, which took place on Saturday across several parts of Mali, are among the latest in a series of escalating incidents linked to armed groups operating in the country. ECOWAS said the violence highlights the “barbaric nature” of those responsible and the urgent need for a collective response.

The bloc has called on governments, security forces and regional mechanisms to work together more closely, urging a coordinated effort to confront what it described as a shared threat.

ECOWAS also extended its condolences to the victims and expressed solidarity with the Malian authorities and citizens, as the country continues to grapple with worsening insecurity.
