The Gauteng Department of Health in South Africa (SA) says child immunisation has fallen to 75%in the province, putting children under one year old at greater risk of preventable diseases.

Assistant Director for Expanded Program on Immunisation and Communicable Diseases control, Yolandie Luther says, “Unfortunately, social media is our biggest threat at the moment, and people believe Google and the AI platforms more readily than they do the medical health professionals. And unfortunately, when you Google immunisation, the first thing that comes up is myths and half-truths, and unfortunately, people believe that.”
