The Border Management Authority (BMA) says plans to modernise some of South Africa’s (SA) busiest border posts are moving into a critical implementation phase.
BMA Commissioner, Doctor Michael Masiapato, has officially announced the successful bidders appointed to lead the redevelopment of six strategic ports of entry across the country.
The ports earmarked for the upgrades include Beitbridge on the Zimbabwean border, Lebombo linking SA to Mozambique, Maseru Bridge and Ficksburg on the Lesotho border, Kopfontein at the Botswana crossing, and Oshoek into Eswatini.
The redevelopment project forms part of government’s broader strategy to strengthen border security, improve the efficient movement of people and goods, and support economic growth through world class, technology driven border infrastructure.
Masiapato says negotiations with the preferred bidders under the public private partnership agreements are at an advanced stage.
