Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) President Zingiswa Losi has welcomed, what she describes as government’s move to cushion workers from rising living costs.
Losi says organised labour supports Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s decision to extend the fuel levy relief, particularly in the face of ongoing conflict in the Middle East and continued volatility in global markets that place pressure on household finances.
She was speaking ahead of a media briefing as Limpopo Province, prepares to host a Workers’ Day rally, where economic hardships and cost of living concerns are expected to dominate discussions.
Losi has also urged government to consider additional support for paraffin users, warning that many of the country’s most vulnerable households, particularly those without access to electricity, remain exposed to rising energy costs.
