UNICEF has issued a warning
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban has issued the warning after a 14-day visit to Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali in the Central Sahel region.
UNICEF says more than 3.6 million people have had their lives disrupted due to violence and forced displacement in the area.
The organisation added that recent reports of violence in Mali serve as a stark reminder of the fragile and dangerous conditions facing children across the region.
Rebel groups in the West African country carried out a wave of co-ordinated attacks this past weekend, which the UN Secretary-General has condemned.
