Immigration authorities in Uganda have arrested 169 foreign nationals in Kampala following a raid on what officials describe as a suspected illegal call centre operation.
The group is being held at an immigration facility in the capital, where officers say they were found operating without valid documentation. Authorities allege the suspects were working from a residential compound in the Bukoto–Ntinda area, which had restricted access and limited movement in and out.
Simon Mundeyi, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said authorities acted swiftly after receiving intelligence.
“We received information to the effect that there are another group of foreign nationals totaling about 169 operating in the areas of Bukoto, Ntinda, Kampala, running some kind of call centre where they defraud people. So we acted very fast. We dispatched our team to that place,” said Mundeyi.
