A new scan developed by researchers at University of Oxford could help detect endometriosis earlier, offering hope to thousands of women who often wait years for a diagnosis.

The pilot study uses CT scans combined with a molecular tracer to identify early signs of the condition, which are frequently missed by conventional imaging.

If confirmed in larger trials, scientists say the technique could significantly shorten diagnosis times and help women get answers, and treatment, much sooner.

Endometriosis affects about 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it, often causing severe pain and, in some cases, fertility issues.
