The United States (US) has sanctioned former Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Joseph Kabila.
The US is accusing Kabila of supporting Rwanda-backed M23 rebels and contributing to instability in eastern DRC.
The US Department of the Treasury says Kabila provided financial backing to the M23 and its political military wing, the Congo River Alliance, in an effort to shape the region’s political landscape.
The group is blamed for intensifying violence that has killed thousands of civilians and triggered a large-scale displacement crisis.
