It is May 2026, and the debate over the movement of people across South Africa’s (SA) borders has reached high discussion.
In last week alone, SA has seen thousands take to the streets in Gauteng Province, and beyond, demanding urgent state action on undocumented migration, a crisis that many feels have been allowed to fester for too long.
In a new press release titled “SA’s immigration crisis is not merely a national issue,” civil society movement #NotInMyName International argues that SA is facing a continental failure that requires more than just domestic policing.
The organisation is calling for a radical rethink of how we engage with neighbouring countries and the international community the solve.
