Chairperson of the Standing Committee of Senior Officials at the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Tebogo Seokolo, says South Africa (SA) wants to use infrastructure projects across Africa to help grow regional economies and create jobs.
Seokolo, who is also a Deputy Director at SA’s Department of International Relations and Co-operation, was speaking on the sidelines of the Zambia Trade and Investment Forum in Pretoria.
He said SA wants its companies to invest in ways that support industrial growth across the continent, including manufacturing and job creation, rather than simply extracting resources and leaving.
According to Seokolo, stronger economies in neighbouring countries could also help reduce economic migration into SA over time by creating more opportunities for people at home.
