Kenya’s Sarah Mose claimed bronze on the opening day of the Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships in Oran, Algeria.

The Kenyan swimmer set a new national record of 57.49 seconds to finish third in the women’s 100m freestyle final.

Gloria Muzito of Uganda took gold in 55.65 seconds, while Zimbabwe’s Paige Van Der Westhuizen secured silver with a time of 56.54 seconds.

The result adds to Mose’s growing reputation as one of Kenya’s top swimmers. The 19-year-old, who is based in Poland, last competed at the World Championships in Singapore, where she recorded a personal best of 25.96 seconds in the women’s 50m freestyle.

She was also part of Kenya’s 4x100m medley relay team that set a national record at the same event.
