South Africa’s (SA) apex court is expected to hand down ruling on a court challenge over whether the country’s parliament acted lawfully when it rejected a Section 89 panel report recommending an impeachment inquiry against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The application was brought by opposition political parties the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and African Transformation Movement (ATM).
The action was against parliament’s blocking of an impeachment inquiry by voting down a Section 89 panel report that found President Ramaphosa had a serious case to answer.
The panel’s findings relate to allegations concerning the alleged theft and handling of foreign currency at Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala game farm in the Limpopo Province.
