President Cyril Ramaphosa’s impeachment

Pressure is mounting on South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa after the country’s top court overturned Parliament’s decision to block an inquiry into allegations of misconduct against him.

The Constitutional Court has ordered lawmakers to establish a special impeachment committee to investigate the claims.

Opposition parties, including the Economic Freedom Fighters and ActionSA, say Ramaphosa should resign, while the uMkhonto weSizwe Party is pushing for a vote of no confidence.

Even the Ramaphosa’s ally, the SA Communist Party, says impeachment proceedings should begin without delay.
