A new opposition coalition in Togo has held its first authorised public rally in more than a year, in what analysts say could signal a shift in the country’s political climate.
The gathering took place in Capital Lomé, on Monday and brought together several opposition groups, including political parties and the citizen movement Togo Debout.
This was the first public demonstration officially authorised since the introduction of Togo’s Fifth Republic, a year ago.
Members of the newly formed opposition platform, known as the National Framework for Consultation for Change in Togo used the gathering to call for political reforms and greater democratic space.
