Kenyan President William Ruto says the Africa Forward Summit marks a decisive step towards freeing the continent from dependency.
Closing the two-day conference, Ruto revealed that billions of dollars had been mobilised to drive investment and accelerate growth across the continent.
He co-chaired the summit alongside his French Counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
Ruto says Africa has both the capacity and the potential to finance critical infrastructure projects, from roads to technology.
He says, “We must confront with honesty and urgency, the question of how Africa finances its own transformation. The era in which Africa’s development was principally framed through aid dependency and unsustainable borrowing must give way to a new paradigm grounded in investment, innovation, domestic resource mobilisation and strategic partnerships built on sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit.”
