Zambia is strengthening investor-friendly policies as it positions itself as an attractive destination for energy and infrastructure investment.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Zambia Investment Forum in Pretoria South Africa, Zambian energy expert Hope Chanda Musonda said the country has already added hundreds of megawatts of renewable energy to its national grid through solar and other clean energy projects.
Zambia faced a severe drought between 2023 and 2024, which significantly affected hydropower generation and exposed the country’s dependence on hydroelectric energy.
Musonda said the crisis pushed Zambia to accelerate investment in renewable energy as part of its transition away from fossil fuels.
“We had a call to action in 2024 at the Energy Forum for Africa where we agreed to expand solar installations across the country. Since then, we have already seen major solar projects being commissioned,” she said.
She added that new energy partnerships and investments are helping Zambia diversify its power supply while creating opportunities for long-term economic growth.
