The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) says it has yet to receive government funding for preparations ahead of this year’s Commonwealth Games and the Youth Olympic Games.
GOC President Richard Akpokavie says the delay is affecting preparations with just over two months remaining before the Commonwealth Games begin in Glasgow on July 23.
Parliament reportedly approved a $1 million budget for Ghana’s participation in the Games, but the committee says no funds have yet been released.
The Youth Olympic Games will take place in Dakar from October 31 to November 13.
Akpokavie says while football often receives strong financial backing from sponsors and government, other sporting disciplines also deserve adequate support.
