President Daniel Chapo has challenged Mozambique’s newly created State General Inspectorate

President Daniel Chapo has challenged Mozambique’s newly created State General Inspectorate (IGE) to ensure stricter management of public resources and strengthen transparency, accountability and integrity within government institutions.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the first senior officials of the new body in Maputo, Chapo said the creation of the IGE marks an important step in reinforcing internal oversight mechanisms, fighting corruption and protecting public assets.

Chapor stressed that public institutions must operate with greater responsibility and stronger financial controls to improve governance and public trust.

Political analyst Fredson Guilenge says the establishment of the IGE could have a significant institutional impact if it operates independently and effectively.

“The creation of the IGE signals an attempt to strengthen state oversight and improve accountability in public administration. However, its success will depend on political will, institutional independence and the ability to act without interference,” Guilenge said.
