Mining Indaba 2027 has unveiled its official theme, “Stronger Together, Partnerships in Practice”

Africa’s mining sector is facing growing pressure to deliver greater economic benefits beyond raw mineral exports as industry leaders push for stronger partnerships and local industrial development.

Mining Indaba 2027 has unveiled its official theme, “Stronger Together, Partnerships in Practice,” highlighting the need for closer cooperation between governments, investors and mining companies.

Industry Director Investing in African Mining Indaba, Laura Nicholson said the theme reflects the industry’s need to break away from fragmented approaches and focus on practical collaboration to address long-standing challenges.

“The industry works in silos a lot, and this is holding the industry back. Nothing can work successfully if we do not really come together,” Nicholson said.

She added that Africa’s economic growth depends not only on mining activity itself, but also on infrastructure development, industrialisation and beneficiation of raw materials within the continent.

Nicholson stressed that African countries must move beyond exporting raw minerals and instead focus on adding value locally to strengthen economies and create jobs.
