Several major roads in and around Cape Town, South Africa, will be closed this weekend for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, with authorities urging motorists and residents to plan ahead.
The City of Cape Town says parking restrictions will begin on some roads from Friday, while special transport arrangements have been introduced to support the event.
These include park-and-ride facilities, MyCiTi shuttle services and a dedicated train service aimed at creating a largely car-free marathon route.
Cape Town Safety and Security Mayoral Committee Member, JP Smith said organisers had finalised logistics for both runners and spectators and appealed to the public to comply with road closure and no-parking notices.
The city will also activate hydration stations and public cheer zones around the city centre to support runners during the marathon.
