South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido has revealed that he played through pain during the club’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League final first leg after recently suffering a shoulder injury.
The 28-year-old is believed to have dislocated his shoulder during Sundowns’ Betway Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs less than two weeks ago, forcing him to miss the following two matches.
Cupido’s inclusion in the continental final against AS FAR surprised many supporters, but the defender says the injury was managed with pain treatment to allow him to feature for the team.
“I had to take an injection and anything for the badge. If the team needs me, I need to be there through pain or whatever. I’m happy to be on the field,” Cupido said.
